Expedition Highlights

Chumming for Shark Attraction: Each day, your crew will use chumming techniques to draw sharks closer to the boat, creating an electrifying atmosphere as the waters around you stir with anticipation. The sight of these powerful creatures attracted to the boat is an experience, amplifying the excitement before you even enter the water. You will be surrounded by the activity as sharks approach, giving you a chance to observe their behaviour up close before getting in the water for a true adventure.

Snorkelling with Blue Sharks Overview:

Blue sharks are one of the most graceful and abundant shark species found in temperate and tropical oceans worldwide. They are known for their long, sleek bodies and vibrant blue colour, which gives them their name. These sharks are pelagic, meaning they live in the open ocean, far from the coast, making them an exciting species to encounter for snorkelers and freedivers.

Appearance:

Blue sharks have a slender, streamlined body with long pectoral fins and a characteristic blue-grey colour on their dorsal (top) side, fading to a lighter, silvery-white colour on their underside.

Their large eyes and long tails help them hunt and navigate through the open

Behaviour:

Blue sharks are generally non-aggressive and are considered more curious than dangerous. They are known to be inquisitive and may approach divers, offering an incredible opportunity to observe them up close.

Although they are capable hunters, they mainly feed on small fish, squid, and other marine life found in deep waters. Blue sharks are also migratory, often traveling long distances, which adds to their allure for marine adventurers.

Snorkelling and Freediving Encounters:

Due to their relatively calm and curious nature, blue sharks are ideal for snorkelling and freediving encounters.

With chumming techniques, you can safely draw these sharks closer to the boat, allowing for stunning underwater views. They often swim around divers in a graceful manner, making them one of the more accessible shark species for those new to interacting with sharks.

Freediving with Mako Sharks Overview:

The shortfin mako shark is a powerful and fast predator known for its speed, agility, and distinctive appearance. Makos are among the fastest sharks in the ocean, reaching speeds of up to 60 mph (97 km/h), making them a thrilling species to encounter. They are found in both temperate and tropical waters worldwide and are highly migratory.

Appearance:

Mako sharks have a robust, muscular build, with a long, pointed snout, large eyes, and a streamlined body built for speed. Their coloration is typically a vibrant blue on the dorsal side, with a white underbelly. This coloration helps them blend with the ocean’s depths from above while being nearly invisible from below.

Snorkelling and Freediving Encounters:

Freediving with Mako sharks is a true thrill for expeditionists, as these fast-moving predators can be unpredictable. Their speed and agility make them exciting to observe, however their dynamic nature means encounters can be brief and intense. Chumming techniques attract Mako sharks toward the boat, but because of their faster pace and hunting instincts, they may move in and out of the area quickly. This makes any interaction a highly exhilarating, heart-pounding experience. They are typically more cautious around humans and their curiosity may lead them to approach closely.

What’s Included in Your 4-Day Expedition

Shark Encounters: Daily chumming and snorkeling/freediving sessions with blue sharks and Mako sharks. Chumming is done strategically to attract sharks safely to your boat, ensuring close encounters while maintaining control and safety.

Please note that while we aim to provide sightings of the animals listed on the tour, there is no guarantee of encountering them due to the unpredictable nature of marine life and ocean conditions. Factors such as weather, sea conditions, and animal behavior may affect specific species during the safari.

The Experience

Your 4-day shark expedition will be packed with adrenaline, exhilaration, and memories that last a lifetime. Each day starts early, with the boat heading out into the ocean, where chumming will be used to attract the sharks. The sight of these predators circling the boat will be an electrifying preview of the action that awaits beneath the surface.

The chumming process will intensify as the boat moves to prime areas known for shark activity. Expect to see the water come alive with movement as the sharks are drawn closer. This is where the magic happens: you’ll slip into the water for snorkelling or freediving sessions, you’ll find yourself face-to-face with these majestic animals. Blue sharks tend to be more inquisitive and relaxed, allowing you to observe them up close, while Mako sharks will add a sense of urgency and speed to the dives, making them thrilling and dynamic encounters.

Between dives, enjoy fresh meals and snacks while discussing the day’s encounters with your fellow adventurers.
